Our earthly roots
Rairies, a tiny village on the strategic Loire Valley route, is considered to be one of the oldest terracotta production sites in France. A document from 1465 tells us that King René used "good tiles, bricks and stones from la Rairies". This success is due first and foremost to the location: the clay subsoil is exceptionally fine-grained, drawing manufacturers to the site. In 1867, there were 61 brickworks and potteries here in a town of barely 700 inhabitants.
